How You Can Rent A House Even With Bad Credit

Anyone can rent a house, even those with bad credit. Here's how you may be able to get around your problem.

Unfortunately not everybody has the best credit, and that can really make it difficult for you to find a proper place to live. But there are still plenty of ways that you can get around this to make sure that you’re able to rent a house that you really want, so that you’re not punished by that credit.  You’ll find that it’s not always easy, but there are ways that you can get around a negative credit score, so long as you’re just careful and smart about how you actually use and manipulate your report.  There’s plenty you can do to get around a negative overall score though, so don’t fret too much if your report isn’t as nice as you’d like it to be.

It’s just a matter of doing the right things despite those factors that are bringing your score down, and making sure the aspects a landlord really cares about are perfectly ironed out.  There are a lot of things that you want to be looking at, and without actually checking your report first you don’t really know what you should be working on.  So here are a few keys to making sure that your report doesn’t affect you negatively when you’re looking to rent a house.

1) First off you need a copy of your credit report so that you can look at the problems.

If you’re not prepared to look at the problems on your credit report, that’s going to be the first issue that you’re going to have.  You need to actually look at what’s wrong on your report, so that you can get a feel for what’s there and what you can improve upon. If you don’t want to pay, no worries there either as you’re going to find that it’s a federal law that you’re entitled to at least one free credit report a year.  This way, you can request your report every year from all three of the major bureaus, so that you can get a look at what your score is at no cost at all.

2) Why is your score low?

This is something that you want to ask yourself, as there are a few things that won’t affect when you try to rent a house.  When you’re looking to rent, something like previous credit problems from credit cards, or even from a car are not going to count too harshly against you, so long as you have a good rental history.  As long as you have a great history of paying rent, and paying security deposits and the like, then it’s going to show you know how to take care of a home that’s being rented.

3) What can you do to improve in the meantime?

Develop a good rapport on at least three major credit issues, so that you can show that you’re responsible enough to take care of a rental property.  Some of the best ones that you’re going to want to pay attention to are going to include major utility bills, as well as cell phone bills, and anything else of that nature.  These are really vital, so that you can show that you’re making timely payments on all of your major bills, as rent is going to be a major bill that you want to show you can take care of without issue.

Doesn’t take that long of a history either, so even if you have bad credit right now, you’re going to find that you can facilitate change and really make a positive influence right now.  So long as you’re willing to do what it takes with paying your bills on time, it only takes a short history of a year or even just a six months or so to show that you’ve been doing your all to keep up on payments.

4) Accounting for the rent.

Finally, another great way to get around your bad credit, is to show that you can pay to rent a house.  That means showing through proof of employment that you have well more than enough money to cover the cost of your place year to year.  Usually this means that you want to show that you have more than 40 times the rent throughout the course of the year in terms of your salary.  That shows that you can afford the place, and that it won’t be an issue for you to pay throughout your time in the home, which will be enough to ignore credit that has a few issues.
